Sleep On, My Precious Time Bomb

Words and Music by Ben Scott © 2010

Sleep on, sleep on, precious time bomb
Your mother weeps for her own loss
Her body curls she recalls the perfect pain
But you know that strength she still has in her

Our neglect it makes her angry
See her fires burn, her rain and hurricanes
Her storms will pass she can forgive all wrongs
So sleep on my precious time bomb

La da da, dream of her when you're in your bed tonight, still the sleeping sun
Her storms will pass she can forgive all wrongs
So sleep on my precious time bomb

And she is sleeping too, see her hands rest
On your tiny breast although her eyes are closed
The night was torrid and frustration raged
She gave you everything that she had in her

Now the sun peeps in and all is quiet
The house it lies in waiting just for you to wake
The day is new and all frustration done
So sleep on my precious time bomb

La da da, dream of her when you're in your bed tonight, still the sleeping sun
The day is new and all frustration gone
So sleep on my precious time bomb

And now I cradle a tea cup, crumpled in the kitchen
My red eyes scan the sunlight room and then they close again

Sleep on, sleep on, precious time bomb
Your mother weeps for her own loss
I'm falling through the cracks beneath the broken boards
My hands are leaking milk while I try to change your clothes

You lie in my arms you watch intently
Your tiny hands are tugging sharply at my skin
You're talking to me though your one month young
Saying wake up my precious time bomb

La da da, dream of her when you're in your bed tonight, still the sleeping sun
The day is new and all my dreaming done
So sleep on my precious time bomb
